Hip-Hop’s Matriarch: The Impact of ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’

Lauryn Hill’s impact on music is a true inspiration. Her debut album, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, solidified her role as the matriarch of hip-hop.

Having been a part of the Fugees for years, Lauryn Hill’s decision to start a solo career led to the record-breaking album that we’ll be talking about today. Hill’s romantic relationship with Bob Marley’s son, Rowan, and her pregnancy with their child was a big inspiration for this piece of work.

The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, eventually leading to 10 Grammy nominations and 5 wins, including Album of the Year. This was the first hip-hop album to ever receive that award.
